Hallelujah!!! As I am sitting her printing out my internship log for my supervisors signature I am sooooo happy! I started the journey toward my Masters in Counseling Psychology in 2009. Had to take a break for a year because I had a rocky pregnancy. And now here it is 2013 and I’m done. There were days when I felt like giving up. Days when I felt like taking a break. Day’s when I though this wasn’t for me. Day’s when I thought I should be home with my own child instead of helping someone else’s. And my support system (my husband and my aunt) kept motivating me to not give up. My aunt said, “You will be done soon and your good at this, I know this is what Father God wants you to do”. She has been so inspirational to me because she reminds me that no matter what life has in store for you, you have to keep fighting the good fight; never quitting. I thank God for giving me the strength, determination, and courage to keep fighting for this. And while this road has come to an end, the next road starts soon. My newest goal which is another part of my counseling goal is to pass the NCE and MD Law Exam in January 2014. So my road, which I am calling Study Hall Road, begins the end of this month. I will spend an hour a day Monday – Friday and 2 hours Saturday and Sunday studying for this test. With determination, perseverance, and primarily God all of your dreams and goals are attainable. Trust me…this is MY TESTIMONY!

Let The Music Take You…
Whenever my husband has things on his mind, he engulfs himself in two types of activity: extra work and music. While these things do not help me they help most people. Extra work keeps us busy so we dont have time to think of what troubles us. Music works in a similar way. When we listen to music we hear the beat, melody, lyrics and it replaces the problematic thoughts we were having. This time allows us to cool down and think level headed and come up with a rational course of action. Its also soothing to us, depending on the type of music we listen to. Listening to DMX more than likely will not calm us but it takes us away from our present situation. May even be exposing us to music that is more controversial than our issue but the fact that it is NOT our issue is comforting to us because, again, it replaces our negative thought with unrelated thoughts. So next time you are struggling with something try listening to some tunes.

Oprah’s Meditation Challenge
My husband emailed at work the other day asking me to participate in a meditation challenge with him. Its something, as an intern, I taught my clients. Meditation allows you to free yourself from mental and physical ailments if you have the ability to let go. Those who are unsuccessful at meditation have not learned to be free of the outside world and to connect with their inner beings.
This challenge is aimed at incorporating better relationships into our lives so it is one that hubby and I will take together and of course I’ll blog about some of my experiences while participating in the challenge. The challenge starts on Monday, August 5th 🙂
Will you join us along with millions of others 🙂 Click here to learn more https://chopracentermeditation.com/home/?acode=oprah
